Apple faces iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max display production challenges that could limit launch supply

A recently published report suggests that Apple is encountering difficulties in producing displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, potentially resulting in limited availability when the devices officially launch in September. According to the report, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to feature slimmer bezels than the current iPhone 14 Pro. This design change may be the main reason behind the anticipated supply constraints, as Apple has developed new displays to accommodate the updated design. Reports also indicate that LG displays failed reliability tests during the process of integrating them into the metal casing. Apple is therefore modifying LG’s display design to help it pass the required tests. However, the company still has Samsung displays available for use in device assembly. These challenges involving LG displays could lead to screen-related issues. The situation recalls a similar problem Apple faced when increasing the display size of the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2019, which delayed its launch for some time. Despite these difficulties, Apple is not expected to postpone the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Instead, fewer units may be available at the official launch, making the devices harder for customers to obtain during the initial release period.
