The world’s most rugged JCB smartphones

In a notable industry move, British heavy equipment leader JCB has officially entered the smartphone arena. Drawing upon its renowned legacy in engineering robust machinery, the company introduced two unique mobile devices engineered to be among the world’s most durable. Powered by Android, the JCB Toughphone and JCB Toughphone Max are built for high resilience in punishing conditions. Here is a closer look at what these rugged devices bring to enterprise and field operations.

JCB Toughphone

The JCB Toughphone is engineered from the ground up for extreme physical endurance. The British manufacturer outfitted the device with rigid polycarbonate impact bumpers and a reinforced metal backplate. Its 5.7-inch display delivers dependable readability in dynamic work environments, while a 20 MP front-facing camera facilitates sharp video calls and on-site documentation. Additionally, the JCB Toughphone features comprehensive dust resistance and survives water submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, making it well-suited for demanding field work and severe outdoor conditions. To safeguard the screen, JCB incorporated Gorilla Glass with raised rubber bezels for enhanced drop protection, supplemented by factory-applied tempered glass screen protectors.

JCB Toughphone Max

For enterprise professionals requiring elevated specs and prolonged field autonomy, the JCB Toughphone Max serves as the flagship option. It features an expansive 6.67-inch display offering sharp visuals and intuitive handling. Beyond its reinforced display, the Toughphone Max delivers unprecedented battery longevity: alongside a standard 4,050 mAh version, an extended variant features a massive 12,200 mAh pack—among the largest batteries ever fitted into a smartphone. This ensures continuous multi-day operation without dependency on charging infrastructure.

Pricing and Availability

The JCB Toughphone is expected to launch with an estimated starting price of £300, while the premium Toughphone Max is slated to retail at approximately £600.
