Chinese technology company SenseTime has unveiled a broad portfolio of new AI-powered products, including a chatbot and image generation technology, as it seeks to compete in the global race sparked by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
SenseTime CEO Xu Li gave a live demonstration of the company’s new chatbot, “SenseChat,” showing how it can use artificial intelligence to write emails and tell stories. The company’s co-founder, Wang Xiaogang, said the products are powered by the latest version of “SenseNova,” a model SenseTime has developed over the past five years. Large AI models are trained on massive datasets using powerful computing infrastructure. The company, which is subject to US sanctions, did not disclose detailed plans for launching the products. SenseTime also showcased image generation technology, a digital platform for creating avatar models, and two complementary 3D modelling tools. Global interest in AI technology has surged since ChatGPT emerged in late 2022. The popular chatbot uses generative AI to create new text, images, and code, while governments worldwide continue to assess the capabilities and implications of artificial intelligence. SenseTime is one of the largest technology companies in China and globally. Headquartered in Shenzhen, it focuses on AI research and development, with applications across sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, and financial services. The announcement comes amid intensifying competition among global technology companies seeking leadership in AI and its expanding range of applications. These solutions are increasingly used in healthcare, education, retail, entertainment, and many other fields, making artificial intelligence one of today’s fastest-evolving and most closely watched technologies.
