At LEAP 23, the Communications, Space and Technology Commission showcased Wi-Fi 6E, the world’s fastest Wi-Fi technology, through live, interactive demonstrations comparing internet connection speeds with the previous Wi-Fi generation. Presented in partnership with Mobily and Cisco, the experience reflected Saudi Arabia’s leadership in wireless communications and its adoption of the latest technologies. The Kingdom ranks first across the Middle East, Europe and Africa in the total spectrum made available for Wi-Fi networks. The Commission stated that the new technology can deliver connection speeds of up to 2.4 Gbps—six times faster than the previous Wi-Fi generation. Enabling Wi-Fi 6E forms part of the Commission’s role as the digital regulator of the communications and technology sector. By regulating wireless local area networks (WLANs), it aims to facilitate the rollout of the latest Wi-Fi technologies across the Kingdom and encourage the adoption of advanced digital solutions, including virtual reality, augmented reality and the Internet of Things. Saudi Arabia introduced the latest generation of Wi-Fi 6E technology during the inaugural edition of the global conference to increase the digital economy’s contribution and support investment in emerging wireless technologies. Wi-Fi technologies are expected to contribute more than four times their current value to the Kingdom’s GDP.
